Imaginative graphic gags; there’s a cute pattern characterizing the Los Angeles Dodgers and, specifically, Gil Hodges. Cast includes Jerry Lewis, Marie McDonald, Sessue Hayakawa, Nobu McCarthy, Suzanne Pleshette, Barton MacLane, and Robert Hirano. (98 minutes, 1958)
Dracula’s Daughter: A Spanish language adaptation of the terror classic was filmed simultaneously with the Hollywood rendition on the identical sets although much of the orchestrating and camerawork are actually better in this Spaniosh version! Other chief variance: the ladies are outfitted more provocatively. All that’s missing is a performer with the appeal of Lugosi in the lead role. Cast includes Carlos Villar Villarias, Lupita Tovar, Pablo Alvarez Rubio, Barry Norton, Eduardo Arozamena, Carmen Guerrero, and Manuel Arbo. (103 minutes, 1931)
The Good Shepard: Edward Wilson, a patriotic American, finds himself working for the OSS (what will become the CIA). When the war ends, he becomes one of the founders of the CIA. He is intensely devoted to his career, eventually at the expense of everything else in his life.
Raising-Cain: Lithgow is the entire show here. He literally has more roles than you can imagine in this over-the-top thriller in reference to a set of double brothers who’ll halt at nothing to acquire kids for their dad’s disturbing experiments. This tongue-in-cheek De Palma work that gives nods to Hitchcock, Welles, and Michael PowelI is laced with satire. Cast includes John Lithgow, Lolita Davidovich, Steven Bauer, Frances Sternhagen, and Gregg Henry. RT. (95 minutes, 1992)
A Fan’s Notes: Bewildered, football-infatuated author becomes disenchanted with the Incredible American Fantasy of prosperity and compliance, and ends up in an insane asylum. A poor rendition of Frederick Exley’s highly considered novel. Cast includes Jerry Orbach, Burgess Meredith, Patricia Collins, Julia Ann Robinson, and Rosemary Murphy. (100 minutes, 1972)
Shooter: Retired Marine Corp Sniper Bob Lee Swagger is asked to come to Washington, to help track another sniper that will try to kill the President. What happens to him next is a total shock. The same US government people that he is helping are actually setting him up to take the fall for the assassination. He somehow escapes when he is shot, and is now on the run. He is also ready to fight back.
Thunderheart: There have been a number of killings on the Sioux Indian Reservation. The FBI goes in to deal with the situation. One agent, Ray Levoi, has Sioux blood. As he investigates the case he soon realizes there is much more going on than some random killings.
